TMC 12 Masks

We have a fabulous new challenge for August over at The Mirror Crack’d of masks. I have made a venetian/fancy dress style mask, but you can enter with any mask project, so if you have used traditional masking of stamps on your project that will qualify as will using masks/stencils.

12 Masks C

I started with a papier mache mask and gessoed it in white. Then I did randomly sized diagonal stripes of colour with Maya Gold paints. The lemony colour on the end is actually from Luminarte Silks, but it is nowhere near as powerful as the Maya Golds, which look like burnished metal once they are dry, even before you buff them up, but more so after you have a quick rub with a soft cloth!

To make a break between each colour I have adhered some faux gem strings in a rainbow colourway which matched the colours in my mask. These are like little faceted cups of metal colour and sparkle like a real gem would.

I did toy with the idea of leaving it like the pic above, but decided it wasn’t quite what I was after, so I further decorated it with Prima Say it In Crystal and pearl swirls. The Say it In Crystals are self adhesive, but as I am rapidly discovering they don’t like sticking on the Maya Gold paint, so I might have to get out the glue gun to stick them down harder!

Here it is from two different angles.

Do PLEASE pop on over to The Mirror Crack’d and check out the rest of the team’s creations as they are amazing and very varied.
