Crafty Cardmakers #26 Joy’s Recipe

CCM 26 Recipe Our challenge over at Crafty Cardmakers this fortnight is a Recipe by our lovely team member Joy.

1. Use stickers or punches
2. Use the colour orange or yellow
3. Include an animal or fish

The challenge is sponsored by image stamps who is offering a $20 voucher for her store

So come along ladies (and gents) don’t be shy. You’ve got to be in it to win it!

Anyhow here is how I created ‘Joy’s Recipe Card’

I started with blank white card and inked it up with Dried Marigold, Scattered Straw and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks, next I went over it with Cosmic Shimmer mica powder in Mango Orange. I inked up my cat stamp with versamark and stamped it in the middle, also I added the paw prints and sentiment in the same way. This had the effect of removing the Mango Orange powder and also left behind the original stickiness of the distress inks, so I then applied Cosmic Shimmer’s Topaz Sparkle powder over the top and the images popped out in a different colour. I gave it a light mist with some CS Angel mica which I had mixed with water. Sadly the shimmer is just not showing, lol

CCM 26 Recipe Image

After I had trimmed it up I realised that I was left with an area that was the wrong size to be matted onto a punched around the page mat, and because I had to use punches, as per the recipe and I wanted to use the Martha Stewart PAP punches I decided to see if I could make it fit the size I wanted. I guess some PAPs are easier to match like this than others and this one was relatively easy. I worked out that each design required a repeat of 1.75 inches and realised that I could split that in two due to the way this particular punch was designed so I measured and cut a piece of Basic Grey to approx 5.87 inches square. The normal size for paps would have been 5” or 6.75". I punched the corners as normal and then did one punch in from each corner as normal, and an extra one on one side. That left me with approx half a design uncut, so I turned the punch upside down and had a fiddle until it looked about right and punched. You can see from the enlarged area at the foot of the image above that it did thin out one area of the pattern where I ended up overpunching it, but overall it actually looked quite good. CCM 26 Recipe PreDecorating

If it had not worked out right I could have placed an embellishment over any faulty area, but I was reasonably pleased with the way it worked so just decorated it up with various little flowers from my stash.

I should like to enter this in the Artful Inkables Challenge 25 - make your own background paper

I do hope you will come and join in the fun at Crafty Cardmakers, and look forward to popping by your blogs.

Three sketches 11 Challenges ONE card

25.07 ZIG ZAG

Hi all, I have a different sort of combination of challenges today. As soon as I saw the challenge at ABC this week I had a little light bulb moment. You know how you look around the various challenges and think to yourself, I would love to use that sketch, and that one, and that one, but you then pick just one and make a card for that, well this week I have used three different sketches.

As I said I got the idea when I saw the ABC Challenge so here goes

ABC Challenge – Z is for Zigzag (whole card)25.07 Flat

Mojo Monday – Sketch (Page 1)25.07 First Page image

25.07 Second Page imageSimon Says Stamp – Sketch (Page 2)

Friday Sketchers – Sketch (Page 3)25.07 Third Page image

Sassy Cheryl – Cut It Out – Paper Piecing (Page 1) (the little girl’s shirt is paper pieced)

Mo’s Digital Challenge – Paper Piecing (Page 2) (The little girl’s whole outfit is paperpieced)

My Time to Craft – Check It Out - Check Pattern (Predominantly Page 3)

Cupcake Crafts – Cats or Dogs (Whole card)

Papertake Weekly – Cutie Patootie Anything Goes as long as it’s cute (Whole Card)

Digital Tuesday – Birthday card (Whole card)

Charisma Cardz – Anything But Square (Whole Card)

Colouring, apart from paper piecing, in each case was promarkers and the entire paper range including the paper piecing apart from the first page little girl’s shirt, as there was not a plain mauve in the pack, was from Nitwit’s Possibilities Digital paper pack.

I hope you enjoy my different take on the various themes, and that the various Challenge Blogs do not mind sketch combinations either. I did see each part of the zigzag as kind of a separate card so hopefully that will be okay. Now my brain hurts so I am going to lie down, lol

Die Cut Dreams DT Call

DCD DT Call Main

After my long post of old cards yesterday, I would like to share with you a card I made especially for Susie Sugar over at Die Cut Dreams who is looking to expand her ‘Dream Team’.  She requested that anyone interested in joining her team make a card especially for the DT call on the theme of Pink and Girly and it should not be combined with any other challenges.

I fancied having a go at making my own lace flower and so took a length of white lace and pleated it softly until it formed a circle, stitching it in place in the centre as I went. Then I sponged spun sugar and tattered rose distress inks over it until I couldn’t see any white. It still wasn’t quite the colour I was searching for so I sprayed Rose Tea Glimmer Mist onto a craft sheet and ‘mopped it up’ with the lace flower. I layered it up with two different single layer flowers and topped it off with a pink/white gardenia from Wild Orchid Crafts. Three little pink crystals designed to go in bridal bouquets finished it off. I was really pleased with the result because I reckon a prima flower of this sort would be the best part of £1.50 and I made it for pennies.

This is what it looked like when I started out ….

Before  Next I stamped one of the new Kanban Urban Belles onto a sheet of A4 over to the right and then pricked a circular pattern next to her. I stitched the pattern in two different colours of pink. One section of all the patterns I did in a  rose pink doubled over and the other section (the larger of the two parts of each pattern) I stitched with one strand of the rose pink and one strand of deep cerise pink. I haven’t stitched on my cards for a while and had forgotten how much I enjoy it.DCD DT Call Floral

I coloured the urban belle in with promarkers and decoupaged her up on top of the lower layer as I didn’t like the ‘flat look’ of her just stamped directly onto the sheet. The handmade flower was placed in the centre of the stitched circle. I sponged a memento inkpad around the edge of the mat.DCD DT Call Image

I made a mat of American Crafts foil using a MS PAP and I layered all that onto some K & Co sparkly sweet paper and that in turn onto a large white card, not quite A4 in size.

Shame I am not allowed to combine as there was a challenge out there perfect for this card that I spotted yesterday wanting faux or real stitching on your card and I already did all the hard work here, lol. Butterfly 2 Signature Lin

A long catch up post

This is a bit of a catch up post. All the cards here were made for my friends on the Craft Telly forum, either for birthdays, thank you’s or a get well card. You know how it is, you make them but can’t blog them because the recipient hasn’t had their event yet, and then you forget. So to catch up here are a few.

The first one uses a LOV stamp, coloured with prismas, which I just thought was so sweet and reminded me of my childhood best friend and I sharing a good book, stuffed into her Grandma’s over repaired armchair. The background papers are from Kanban and the flowers were from my stash. You will notice the MS punch around the page in a few of these as I had just got it and went mad using it!Fi Sugarplum B'day

The next one was made for someone who was taken ill suddenly on holiday and I hoped that the sentiment would cheer her up as I know she is normally a positive person who would probably appreciate more a humorous card than a sappy one! The image was a freebie from Doodle Pantry Designs coloured with promarkers and the backing paper is a Kaisercraft set called Jungle Bug and I thought the paper matched so well the little ants on the image.Get Well Lorraine This one is a birthday card using a Kraftin' Kimmie design. I love her ‘dark’ characters very gothic, twisted like me! I coloured her in with prismas and she is backed onto some basic grey paper and a black background which I stamped and embossed some swirly flourishes on. Jan B'day 2 This one is also a birthday card using a Mo Manning digi image. The backing paper was from a huge K&Co set I got from QVC over stamped and embossed with copper embossing powder. Lorraine B'day 1 This one is a thank you card for someone who very kindly took the time to print out and colour in a FULL promarker chart for me when I was still collecting them so I would be able to choose which colours to go for next. The images online are never as good as the real thing and I really appreciated that she took the time to do this for me.

The image is from Sassy Cheryl coloured with my prismas and the BP is Basic Grey, flowers from Petaloo, with some flattened bead caps and brads for centres. The strip across the bottom is felt, and I couldn’t see how to fix it on, until a light went on in my head and I realised it should be eyeleted in the flower centres!

Lynne Thank you card This one is a birthday card again using a Mo Manning Digi and again coloured with my prismas. The backing papers are again Basic Grey. Can you tell I adore BG papers?

Macey B'day

This one is for a farmers wife friend and I just loved these penny black cows all stood at the farm gate in their Sunday best outfits. Tragically I seemed to have thought it funny to print out a sentiment saying Happy Birthday to Moo! What was I thinking of ……. both images are coloured with promarkers.Millburn B'day

This is another birthday card using another LOV stamp, again coloured with my prismas. As you can see that MS punch is back and this time I have made my own coloured background using distress inks and then punched it, the back is a combination of K&Co papers.Welly B'day 2 This one is using a Mo Manning Digi, and there is that MS punch again. Again I coloured my own background before punching it. I have overstamped the K & Co daisy background with a swirly stamp so that the colours all matched.Winspiration Birthday 2010 Finally, (breathing a sigh of relief are you) is a birthday card using another Sassy Cheryl image called Leapfrog, which again I coloured with my prismas. The backing papers are again Basic Grey and the flowers are a combination of wild orchid flowers and some embossed single layered flowers in my stash.SatinCollie B'day B If you stuck with me this far. Thank you for reading.

Crafty Cardmakers Spotlight Easel Challenge

Hi all, no posts for a week and then hey ho, three in one day! On a roll here, lolMain

This is my current DT card for the Crafty Cardmakers Challenge blog. Every other week they have a general challenge and then alternate weeks it’s a spotlight challenge. This week the spotlight is easel cards.

No stamping involved here, just some really rather gorgeous Kanban card and a topper from them. In my case the challenge was in getting the easel to not break apart but allow enough of the shape to remain so it’s obvious what it is.

I did take a couple of pics along the way as the CCM blog is aimed at the newer crafter, so if any of you have not tried this sort of shaped easel yet, hopefully you can now dive in.

Firstly I started with a square of card sligthly larger than my finished design was going to be and in this case I used one of the gorgeous Go Kreate dies called pointy frame, I think! lol I forget now.Stage 1 1.1

I placed my die just slightly over the edge of the card so that it would not cut two complete frame shapes with no join, but also not so far that it would leave less of a shape to decorate. What I didn’t want was a gorgeous shape with a squared off bit. My first attempt was a disaster and I now have two nice spare frame shapes for a later design!

After it has been through the big shot and the die removed it looks like this, and as you can see there is very little holding it all together.

Stage 2 1.1

The next stage is to fold on side in on itself, so there is a place to support the main front part of the card and another area to decorate which will become the base of the easel, like thisStage 3 1.1After that comes the fun part of decorating it. I used the same die to cut  a lovely sheet of Kanban card into two separate pieces and placed one on the bottom and the second one I stuck to the half piece folded over.

You need to place something on the bottom on a foam pad or maybe a flower or largish gem, something that will sit proud of the card base and allow the top of the easel to sit against it and not slide flat.

Voila Lower 1.1

Before I was finished I tipped the whole thing over and using the smaller die I cut out a sheet of paper to stick to the underside so that there would be somewhere to write a message on like so – notice the two hinges at the top. I put them on to strengthen that part of the card that would get the most wear as the join was quite thin, unlike a normal card with a full spine.

BackJPG

The top was decorated thus Upper 1.1

I chose this particular card both for colour and design as this spotlight follows on from our Photo Inspiration Challenge of last week and I chose the blue to complement the blue colours, and the swans if you look closely form a heart with their necks, plus swans mate for life, so clearly there is a form of love there too.

I hope that anyone who has not yet made an easel card, and particularly a shaped one will now feel armed with the knowledge to give it a go, and for all you seasoned crafters out there, well we all had to start somewhere! So if you are feeling inspired why not come on over and join us with an easel card of your own. I do believe Vix has a small candy for the winner, so well worth an entry. There are lots more examples on the blog too to hopefully give you some inspiration.

New cardmaker or seasoned veteran, all are welcome at CCM.

If you haven’t entered last week’s photo inspiration challenge, there is still time to do so as it runs for another week and we would love to see you there.

Hugs

My First Ever Layout and a Card too

Bonnie and Emily

What a glorious morning here, sun shining, not too hot, peace and quiet. The calm before the storm of the kids breaking up for their summer hols. I live opposite a park and it can get very noisy during weekends, evenings and the holidays.

I have been busy most of the weekend playing with the Serif Digital Artist Scrapbooking software and I managed to come up with a layout – my first ever – showing my lovely, sadly missed dog and my Daughter. Now I am torn between some cards and more playing with the new software. Plus I have a mountain of photos to scan in and convert to digital, eeeekkk.

I also managed to squeeze in a card! Only one mind. 16.07.12 Multi

I am entering this into the following challenges.

Raise The Bar – Old, New, Borrowed, Blue – Well the blue is a bit obvious, the majority of the colouring is blue, the old is the background paper which I have had for several years, the new is the gorgeous Kanban stamp from the Annabel and Lucy range and the borrowed is the punch I made the decorative corners with! Well the corners on the mat, not the gem ones, obviously.

Stampavie and More – Anything Goes - ‘nuff said

My Time to Craft – Butterfly Bliss – the sweet little butterfly perching on the edge of the mat

Papertake Weekly – In the garden – well where else will you find a frog, unless you have a brother and he puts one in your bed, as happened to a friend of mine! *shudders* and silently thanks the fact I only have a Sister.

Flutterby Wednesday Challenge – A butterfly/fairy/angel and three layers. My three layers are the nestie shape under my image and beneath that the rectangular mat with the punched corners and beneath that a blue mat to match the nestie shape.

Creative Card Crew – Die Cuts – Nestie shape

You can’t see it on the image, drat, but I covered her wings and the stars on her wand with cosmic shimmer sparkle pigments and it glistens. The rest was coloured with promarkers, and some inktense pencils to give the background a bit of colour.

I must get on and get some cards completed now, so playing with my software is gonna have to wait a while longer. Why oh why are there not more hours in the day, at least those I am not feeling too tired to appreciate, lol.

Fairy Magic

When I was over at the Crafts and Me website last week spending more money on yet more lovely stamps I happened to notice they had a blog and wouldn’t you know it I had just the stamp I wanted to use for their latest challenge.

Crafts and Me Pink Challenge Main

She is called ‘Love is Gone’, and what a beautiful fairy she is too. I just adore these Ching-Chou Kuik stamps, such grace and beauty.

I have coloured her in with promarkers in various shades of pink and given her black roses to symbolise the lost love. She is matted onto some Kanban card and that in turn onto some digital paper from Summer Driggs and also the black and white bit is from Graphicus from their Guild Paperpack.

The sentiment I created in Photo Impact.

Crafts and Me Pink Challenge Image

Guess what I discovered, no idea how this happened but I don’t have any black roses! How did that happen? I had to colour one. I almost drained my black promarker colouring in a deep red rose, which I then glittered. Strangely it’s that sort of glitter that gives a green glow against a dark colour, oooooops. The other three lovely little pink roses are from Wild Orchid Crafts. If you want to go flower crazy be sure and check them out!

I am entering this little darlin’ into

Crafts and Me – Black, Pink and White challenge

Wild Orchid’s first ever challenge – Say it with Flowers!

Cute Card Thursday – Summer Colours – hope hot pink qualifies as summery and ditto

Delightful Challenges – Summer Colours also

By The Cute and Girly – A summery creation, again the colour combo I hope fits the bill

Stamp with Fun – A fairy on your project

Flutterby Wednesday – A fairy etc. on your card – Hooray great to see them back

Now I finally have time to concentrate on my now defunct monitor which decided to give up the ghost on Monday morning cos this spare of my Daughter’s is killing my eyes, and I am not altogether sure what my posts look like as it’s way too bright!

Crafty Cardmakers 25

Here is my design team card for Crafty Cardmakers Challenge number 25.

CCM 12-06-10 Main Heart

It was created from a photo recipe and I took my inspiration from both the colours and the theme of the photo.

image

The image is a combination of Stampavie's A kiss for Chloé which I stamped first, masked and then stamped Magnolia's Love Hearts and Banner. Coloured with my prismas and OMS, apart from the skin which I did with promarkers. Background papers - Nitwit's Joyful Hearts Digikit, and Basic Grey's Kioshi, and the borders are made with a MS punch. Little bit of ribbon, and a heart embellishment for the middle and two decorative filigree metal corners to finish it off. No flowers again. I must be cured, lol. Until the next time!!!

We are sponsored by the lovely Joanna Sheen so please pop on over and join in the fun, I look forward to seeing your creations, as do all the team. Who knows you might win something nice!

I am also entering my card into a few challenges.

The ABC Challenge Blog – Y is for You and Me - So anything with two images as in this cute stamp.

Stampavie and More – Something sparkling – as in the little twinkly hearts which were the waste from when I punched the borders, stuck down and covered in Cosmic Shimmer glitters.

Allsorts Challenge Blog – a heart on your image – mine is littered with them!

Order of the Opus Gluei – something that will make someone smile – who doesn’t love love, who doesn’t smile when they see a couple wrapped up in each other’s world, even if they are only 10 years old like my little ones!

Aly’s Sunday Challenge – red, white or blue – I obviously chose blue

and last but by no means least

Little Red Wagon – Nestabilities - My lovely boy and girl have been cut out with a the nestie octagon and matted onto the nestie scalloped octagon. Where would be be without nesties!

CCM 12-06.10 Image H

I hope you will find the time to come on over to CCM and check out the other DT cards and leave us a message if you will.

I have to say I am absolutely loving being a member of this very talented Design Team, it has given me a real boost and put a spring in my step, so thank you Vix!

A New Home Card

Budgie New Home Card

I made this for my friend who has finally managed to move home after months of planning!

I love this image, it comes from a brilliant new digi artist, that I found online just a week or so ago at Make It Crafty. I do hope to see much more of her beautiful work.

Anyhow I used the image entitled Fairy Tree House and coloured it with my promarkers. I actually spent a very long time colouring this, following her hints and suggestions about letting it dry between blending, and hopefully it made a difference. Of all the things I have coloured with my promarkers this was the one I was most pleased with.

I couldn’t find some suitable paper of the right colour to mat it onto so I used some K&Co paper and changed the colour of the flowers to match the colours in the picture, having first layered it onto glitter card. Why oh why do we do that, it doesn’t stick and it’s a nightmare to make it stay in place! Just to make life more awkward I first punched a decorative corner into the top of the image layer so that the glitter would show through and of course, then I couldn’t brad it into place, lol

I made my own ribbon flower, sadly the creatables don’t work for me, with a sakura punch and a rectangular punch from fiskars for the ribbon slot. I was tidying it up when I realised it actually looked quite sweet as a rosette and so left the tails in place on the flower and changed it to an award for nicest new home. At least that is where my brain was going, lol

I do hope my friend will be happy in her new home and that she enjoyed my card.
