CCM #251 Embossing

Our challenge today and for the next two weeks at Crafty Cardmakers is Embossing. We want to see all your projects that feature embossing, wet, dry, folders, any embossing will do.

I have used a folder I have had for a very long time. It’s one of the Spellbinders double feature folders from their M-bossabilities range. On the one side is these birds and the other was like a background of branches.

Anyhow I started with diecutting a black square of card using a die from Julie Hickey. And then I embossed it with the folder. I used wax pastes from Pentart in turqoise and magenta, and around the scallop edge I used just a little Purple. I was, sadly a little heavy handed, and the paste has spread into the debossed areas as well.

I created the sentiment with a die from the same Julie Hickey set, which I have trimmed slightly to make it a little shorter. I used a small bird from a Clarity stamp and the sentiment is a premade small one from Martha Stewart. I gave it a bit of a curl with my scissors before sticking it down. The two white frames are also from the same Julie Hickey die set.

DV #219 Hand Coloured Image

Today at Dream Valley we are challenging you to hand colour an image. We are sponsored by Di’s Digi Stamps.

My creation is a page for my Studiolight Journal. I started with the page itself and inked up a Kate Crane texture stamp from Carabelle with versamark and then stamped it onto the page and embossed in white. I then inked each house a different colour with Distress Oxides. I changed the colours of the windows, doors and parts of the roofs with copic pens.

The three images I used are also Kate’s and are Lolly Dolly one of the ones from the Quirky set. I coloured these with copics too, onto Pink Frog smooth cardstock and then cut them out to stick down onto the page. Before that, and because I would have lost some detail on at least two of their heads I stamped the images directly over the coloured in houses. The extras around the edge and the circles with numbers/letters in are also from Kate and are from her Journal Doodles set. I coloured those with copics and cut them out and then having stuck them down I emphasised the edges with a black micron pen.

The sentiment, a quote from Michael Schenker. I printed it on my pc and having stuck the words down again went around the outside edge with a black micron pen. Finally I went around the edges with black soot distress oxide as it was a little too pastel.

CCM #250 Love Is All You Need

Our challenge today at Crafty Cardmakers is Love Is All You Need. Anything ‘love’ related will be fine.

I stamped the heart from the Polkadoodles Me & You stamp set from their Timeless Rose collection onto Pink Frog smooth card with versafine clair and embossed with clear powder. I coloured the hears with Zig Clean Colour watercolour markers. The sentiment is from the same stamp set. I edged the sentiment and the top layer of the card with Archival Ink in Garden Patina and Majestic Violet. I popped this layer up on foam tape to give a bit of dimension to the card.

DV #218 Love

Our challenge today at Dream Valley is Love, and we are sponsored by The Paper Shelter.

I have used their gorgeous image, Sweetheart for my card. I printed her onto Navigator paper and coloured her with copics. The dies are a combination of Spellbinders for the image layer and the green layer, and Crafters Companion for the card base itself. For the base I used double sided adhesive film to stick the pretty heart card, which was not strong enough on it’s own to form a base card, especially with all that filigree die cutting on it, onto a plain white 300 gsm card, and then put the whole thing through the Gemini…….. boy it didn’t like it!!! Had to put it through at least a dozen times in all different directions and then I still had to winkle out the die cut pieces with a pokey tool. But it has made a nice sturdy base. The sentiment came from the same paper pad as the heart paper, as did the green layer.
