CCM 133 Stripes

Welcome to another Crafty Cardmakers challenge. For the next couple of weeks we would love to see your projects with stripes. 133 Stripes

My stripes are from Basic Grey’s Capella papers.

My image is Thomas from Sugar Nellie’s Adorables range. I coloured him with copics. My sentiment was a freebie with a magazine and the little train I made myself with a downloaded colouring page, which I coloured on the pc, and then printed onto inkjet printable shrink plastic and shrunk.

Apologies for the slight blurring, particularly on the image, but for some reason this particular image just didn’t like being photographed. I wonder if it’s because it had so much line art detail in it, masses of tiny dots to indicate shade? Whatever the reason I couldn’t get it any clearer, but with the naked eye and in real life it looks fine.

DV 100 Favourite Colour Combination

Our challenge at Dream Valley for the next two weeks is your favourite colour combination. I have to be honest and say that mine changes from time to time. I am very fond of purples, and currently I seem to be drawn to blues/greens. We are sponsored by Di’s Digi Designs.

DV 100 Favourite Colours 2

I created my card by first spritzing the greens/blues/aquas from the Prima Color Bloom range, onto watercolour card. I then stamped and embossed the two different horses and the smaller of the Fleur-De-Lys from the Visible Image Revolution stamp set in white. I also stamped and embossed the flourish in white and in turquoise, and finally the sentiment is again from Visible Image, but from a separate set to the Revolution.

I edged the underneath of all the white with a grey sharpie marker, and also added glamour dust on top of glossy accents on the horses manes and tails.

DV 100 Favourite Colours Horses

The corners I frantaged in aged Aqua, Aged Teal and Turquoise powders. There is no frippery on this because it’s for my SIL and I thought it was already girly enough with the colours without adding flowers and such to it.

CCM 132 Love, Love, Love

Our challenge today at Crafty Cardmakers is Love, Love, Love. Self explanatory!

I don’t have a sweetheart (everyone say ahhhhhhh) so I have no need for copious amounts of Valentine cards so I created a page for my Art Journal.

132 Love, Love, Love2

I blended various DI’s onto some stamping card, and then using a Doobadoo stencil I added the pink hearts at the top left and bottom right corners. The stamps are all from Chocolate Baroque from their Punky and Fluttering Hearts range, and I stamped and embossed them in white. I coloured the balloon with Luminarte Silks. I distressed around the edge and embossed with more white. The charm is from my stash.

TMC 06 Album/Journal Cover

It’s time for February’s challenge over at The Mirror Crack’d. This month we would love to see your Album/Journal covers. We are sponsored by Woodware Craft Collection with a fabulous £12 voucher to be spent at your favourite Woodware stockist, either online or in store. Please note though you will be responsible for your own postage!

Journal Cover 1a

My cover is for my Journal. The words on it come from my inner desires I guess. Right from a very early age I have had the most vivid dreams of flying. I used to live opposite a park and in my dream it would start off with me playing on the swings. I would swing higher and higher until eventually I would go right over the top of the bar and it would launch me into the air. At first I would be terrified I was about to crash to the ground, but quickly I realised that actually I was levitating there or floating.

When I relaxed and stopped being terrified of falling I started to fly. There was no flapping of my arms or legs, I just glided effortlessly in the sky, swooping and swirling with no effort. It was so vivid I could recall later what the park looked like from the sky, how my house and garden looked from above. What people I knew looked like from above them too. When I used to wake up I would rush to get dressed and go out to the swings to try and repeat what had happened in my dream, as I was convinced that the dream had been real. I was always deeply disappointed when the swing would only go so high and I couldn’t really fly.

Years later, when it became fashionable to buy one of those aerial photographs of your house I realised that what I had been seeing in my dreams all those times was actually very accurate! Who knows, maybe I was having an out of body experience, or maybe I really was flying! As I have gotten older the dreams have lessened in frequency, but nowadays if I have that dream, rather than being disappointed it hasn’t happened for real, it feels like an old friend has come to visit me.

Anyhow, that is why I chose the words and the images for my journal cover because they reflect what is truly inside me, a deep desire to recapture that fabulous feeling of my dreams……

There are no holes in my cover yet because I am a bit of a tidy freak and will want it to line up with all the pages neatly, so once I have enough pages to fill it. I will punch it then! Anyhow, I started off with a 9x12” canvas board, which had been pre-gessoed, and roughly laid out what I fancied.

 Playing

I had a play around with butterflies and where the words should go until I came up with this, which I gessoed over a couple of times to cover up the brown of the lazer cut birdcages and the difference in colour of the letters. When I was happy with that I used a stencil to add texture paste to the butterfly, as you can see from the finished piece I later added a second butterfly, which I also texturised. I added more texture paste to the background just to give a bit of a more textured feel. I realised at this stage I should have added some stencilled areas before sticking my letters and bird cages down, but it was too late at this stage as I couldn’t get the stencils flat enough to paste through, which is why the rough areas of paste instead. A lesson for next time!

01 02

Then I just went to town with Prima Color Bloom Sprays.

When I finally had them roughly how I wanted them, I went over the letters with spray and a paintbrush with a different colour to the background because otherwise the words were lost. I also used gilding wax on the birdcages in Silver and on their hanging supports on one in pink and the other in blue. I did the same with the birds themselves. I buffed up the cages and holders to a shine.

Cage 1 Cage 2

The dragonfly I painted with sprays, and when it was all dry I added some stickles to it’s wings and body, and also to the butterflies.

Dragonfly

The next picture captures the glitter trails I added to the butterflies and the dragonfly.

Journal Cover 2

I also went all around the edge with the silver gilding wax to give it a more lived in look.

And finally from a different angle, showing all the different dimensions.

DV 99 Valentine’s Day

Our challenge today is Valentine’s Day. We are sponsored by The Paper Shelter and I have used one of their images, Valentina, for my card.

99 DV Valentine's Day
The image itself comes as an outline or pre-coloured and in this instance I opted for the pre-coloured image, which I overlaid over the background paper from another of their images called True Love. I added a shadow with my graphics program to give the illusion of dimension. I glittered her wings with Glamour Dust. They look like they are actually feathers because of the excellent artwork under the glamour dust! I changed the colour of her locket with one of the little blue hearts from the waste of the frame punched bits.

The image and background were cut out and after glittering around the edge with MS glitter glue, I attached it to a background frame cut with MS punch around the page double hearts.

I added a bow and arrow charm and pre-printed sentiment.

ABC C for Cupid

As Valentine’s Day is just around the corner our challenge at ABC this fortnight is C for Cupid. We are sponsored by Marianne Design and also by Stamp and Create.

ABC C Cupid
I have taken the challenge literally and used a Cupid image from The Paper Shelter for my card. I coloured it with copics, and the background papers are all from Basic Grey’s Kissing Booth, matted onto a Kraft card blank. I distressed all the edges and inked them with Victorian Velvet DI and then added rose embossing enamel from Stampendous. The mesh ribbon was in my stash as were the two charms but I added colour to them with my copics, . The heart die behind the image is from Marianne’s Craftables range, I think it’s called Tiny’s hearts, and the small corner is a Joycrafts corner die. I added a little glaze to cupid’s glasses but it has come out sort of blue looking on my photograph.
