CCM 146 No Patterned Papers

It’s my turn to host the challenge at Crafty Cardmakers this fortnight and I would love to see your creations that have no patterned paper. By that I mean not printed, nor ready made designer type papers. You can of course, make your own design, as long as it doesn’t involve printing I guess!

Anyhow mine came about as a result of a mistake with something else I was trying to create. I have these brushos, but quite frankly I am not good at getting the results other people seem to get. I seem to be either too heavy handed with them, or not enough of them on the background. Also because you have to spritz the card to get them to move and then you risk your card being all buckled perhaps I don’t start off with enough dampness to the card. So I did this sheet, trimmed up in the photo below, but realised that yet again it was to dern busy and that any image or focal point would be lost against it because of their being so much diverse spread of colour.

DSCN9166

I was about to bin it when I had a brainwave (yes I know it’s rare my brain is even firing on half a cylinder let alone having a ‘wave’.

I have a few of those gorgeous Memory Box Open Studio dies that are designed to cut a slightly distressed looking pattern into your cardstock and I just placed it up to the messy background and liked the look of what peeked through. The white from the cardstock really broke up the mess, and made it fairly attractive.

146 No Patterned Papers

I repeated the pattern in the opposite diagonal corner, and then stuck it down, before matting both sheets onto some blue cardstock, which I also diecut a greeting from.

My image is from Morgan Fitzsimmons and I coloured her with copics and also some prismacolours. I glittered her wings and the butterflys.

I have to be honest here, when I was sticking down the diecut card some of the pigment on the background had not been dampened and as a consequence there were flecks of pigment dust left on the card and some of these transferred to my white cardstock, leaving a couple of mucky marks so I had to put my image at more jaunty an angle than I really wanted to and also add a few mauve gems to one side to cover it!

So if you fancy copying with any brusho disasters of your own, give them a good dusting first to make sure you have dislodged all the dry pigment that hasn’t melded itself into the card.

  6. The paper with splatters is beautiful in itself, but I like how you went one step further and covered it with the die cut panel, allowing the colors to show through the cut out parts...
